Every year, RecWeek transforms Ateneo into a lively showcase of student organizations, where freshmen and upperclassmen alike explore communities that match their interests and passions. For the Ateneo Mathematics Society (AMS), RecWeek 2025 was more than just recruitment—it was the start of an adventure that invited Ateneans to see math in a whole new light.
Last August 18, AMS brought Mysteries of Mathopia to life during the Org-Led Event at Colayco Pavilion. Students stepped into the thrilling world of Mathopia, a land where mysteries lurk in every corner, waiting for brave minds to crack codes, solve puzzles, and restore order.
And brave minds, indeed, showed up.
Colayco was transformed into four districts: the Savannah, Wetlands, Tundra, and Mathopolis, with each stop featuring interactive activities, ranging from puzzles to games to logic and trivia challenges designed to test wit, creativity, and even teamwork. These not only sparked excitement but also gave students a glimpse of how AMS brings fun, community, and mathematics into every experience.
Ateneans were introduced to the world of Mathopia through various activities.
But the fun didn’t stop there. From September 1-5, AMS carried the Mathopia spirit into its RecWeek booth at Red Brick Road. If OLE was the prologue, this was its continuation. It was a chance for students to take their first steps as a character in the story’s journey.
At the booth, Ateneans were invited to engage in a variety of interactive activities. They were able to vote for their favorite Animath, rallying behind the character that resonated most with them. They also wrote on the Freedom Ball, a fun and colorful space for self-expression, where students left quotes, jokes, and inspiring messages. Many also stopped to take photos using the AMS frame, capturing memories with their blockmates and newfound friends. Most importantly, students had the chance to talk with AMS members to ask about the organization and its upcoming projects, and to hear stories about our culture and what it’s really like to be a part of AMS.

The spotlight even extended to the RecWeek stage, where AMS Chief Finance Officer Dennis Go (3 BS AMF) and Data Analytics Office Head Christian Paraan (4 BS AMDSc) hyped up the crowd by performing Matt’s dance—a fun and energetic way to showcase AMS’ presence and invite more students to join the adventure. Their performance was met with cheers and laughter, adding to the festive atmosphere of RecWeek.

Of course, the booth wasn’t just about games and activities, but it also marked a fresh beginning for many. With the launch of AMS applications from September 1 to 8, dozens of students officially signed up to join the journey. AMS proudly welcomes 337 members, including our 84 new Mathmates, for this academic year.
For first-year students, RecWeek was their first glimpse into how math can come alive beyond the classroom. For upperclassmen and returning members, it was both a homecoming and a reminder of the org’s long-standing culture of curiosity, collaboration, and fun. The booth became more than just a recruitment spot: it became a place of laughter, conversation, and connection, reflecting the heart of what AMS truly is.
With RecWeek 2025 now in the books, AMS looks back on a month filled with energy, creativity, and community. The mysteries of Mathopia may have been unraveled for now, but the journey of AMS this academic year is only just beginning. Because in AMS, every mystery unraveled opens the door to a whole new journey.
